What is the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL, TRKI)?

The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL, TRKI – Тест по русскому языку как иностранному) is a state multilevel system of testing the Russian proficiency of non-native speakers.


What are the TORFL levels?

TORFL has 6 Russian Proficiency Levels:

*Level normally achieved by the end of the program.

Preliminary level is required to obtain the Russian citizenship.

TORFL Fees

TORFL has a set fee for each level:

A comprehensive examination in the Russian language, Russian history, and the basics of Russian legislation (obtain the temporary residence permit and residence permit in the Russian Federation) 5,300 rubles
Preliminary (A2) (for obtaining the Russian citizenship)6,000 rubles


How to take TORFL at NSTU?

Test Dates

NSTU offers the tests monthly.

Test Registration

  1. Contact the NSTU TOEFL (TRKI) Test Center to register for your test. Registration deadline is two days before the test date.
  2. Pay the test fee.
  3. Complete the application form. You must provide a passport or a national identity card.
