A graduate student at Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI) is developing an optimization tool that combines energy and hydrocarbon production technology. The introduction of a synergetic model will improve the efficiency of business processes at the junction of various functional areas, such as geology, oil production, and energy.
According to Dmitry Lazarev, a graduate student of the Department of Electric Power Plants at the Faculty of Energy of NSTU-NETI, there is a situation in the fuel and energy complex when a significant part of the energy infrastructure has exceeded the standard operating time. At the same time, consumption in the oil production sector is growing. With growing demand, the pace of new capacity commissioning remains below the required level. Oil producing companies have existing assets (oil and gas fields, exploration areas), some of them may have redundant infrastructure that requires modernization. There are also new assets where it is necessary to redesign the infrastructure. The calculation of prospective loads for energy infrastructure is a mandatory component of the technological processes of oil and gas companies and requires significant resources.
"There are large amounts of data related to the geological basis of deposits, the need to develop mining and gas infrastructure, as well as the energy component. These data are constantly changing, and recalculating them manually is time-consuming and labor-intensive. I am developing algorithms that would speed up this process. Algorithms for calculating prospective energy loads for both existing mature assets as part of the modernization process and for new assets as part of conceptual design, followed by the introduction of digital decision—making assistants, will help eliminate routine energy-consuming tasks and improve the efficiency of the energy infrastructure of oil and gas companies," said Dmitry Lazarev.
With the help of the developed algorithms, it is planned to reduce the calculation time from 3-5 months to a week by automating data collection, processing and modeling, speeding up the process of developing documentation and designing energy systems, as well as making the process of hydrocarbon production more manageable and transparent.
"The uniqueness of the approach lies in the fact that there are no algorithms to answer questions about the need and possibility of upgrading the infrastructure of mature assets, as well as questions about the formation of energy infrastructure for new assets. At the exit, several options will be presented for the implementation of energy infrastructure at the facilities of an oil producing company, from which you can choose the most acceptable option," the developer added.
Algorithms are an integral element of forming a synergetic digital twin model that combines geological data (reservoir parameters, reservoir pressure, water availability, etc.), technological data (mining processes) and data on energy infrastructure (power consumption, network condition) into a single integrated environment. The digital model of the energy system of the oil industry will allow real-time simulation of the infrastructure, evaluate its effectiveness and promptly respond to the changing situation to optimize the energy supply of assets.
