Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) is creating a service for automatically checking relay protection thresholds using algorithmic analysis technology for electrical networks. The project became one of the best in the competition of the "Student Startup" Innovation Promotion Foundation.
Vladislav Panyushkin, a second—year graduate student at the Faculty of Mechatronics and Automation, NSTU-NETI, is developing a unique way to check relay protection settings - preset threshold values of controlled parameters that turn off the damaged section of the electrical network in time and thereby help avoid an accident. A special all-union State Standard and an order from the Ministry of Energy require checking the settings at all facilities, but it takes several hours to calculate the parameters of one connection, and it will take weeks to fully inspect a substation with dozens of connections.
The FMA student's development is a so-called calculator in the form of a website, which allows you to reduce the work to a few minutes. The service works simply. "The engineer enters the electrical network diagram (transformers, lines, equipment, loads) in the browser, the system automatically counts the currents and protection parameters, checks for errors in the settings, finds places where the protection may not work correctly, and saves everything in the database so that you can always return to the project," he said. Vladislav Panyushkin.
The developer noted that the service will allow you to work from any device and will not require software installation, which is important for on-site commissioning. In addition, according to the calculations of the author of the project, it is several times cheaper than existing ETAR software systems for modeling, designing, analyzing, monitoring and automating electric power systems. The cost of the service is about 54,000 rubles per year.
"The development is a subscription model with a calculation in the cloud, it is much more convenient than a one—time license and is very convenient for small and medium-sized organizations," Vladislav Panyushkin emphasized, adding that the service complies with Russian standards and includes an algorithm for nodal potentials according to the standards of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.
Currently, the project has been completed by more than 30%, and the program code for the calculation system is being developed. After finalizing and testing the service, it is planned to conclude contracts with energy industry organizations.
