Teachers from Novosibirsk State Technical University have completed an international internship at specialized online English language courses from the SWAN English Language Training school and Vector Ireland educational agency.
During 2 months of intensive internship, the teachers of our university took a course of online lectures and practical classes from leading native-speaking teachers from Dublin (Ireland). The internship program considered the following topics:
· teaching international students in English,
· modern methods and approaches to conducting online lectures and classes,
· organization of international educational programs in English, etc.
The teachers also were acquainted with the EMI (English Medium Instruction) methodology. This methodology involves the use of English for teaching academic disciplines in universities where English is not the national language.
The internship participants obtained valuable skills of teaching in English in various situations: different levels of language proficiency between students and teachers, cultural differences, features of face-to-face and remote lectures, interaction in large and small groups of students in practical classes, and so on.
As part of the internship, each teacher had the opportunity to prepare and give a presentation on the subjects taught, as well as receive feedback — an assessment of the material presentation, the speed of delivering the lecture, ease of understanding speech and other recommendations.
The online internship allowed them to gain valuable knowledge about the peculiarities of teaching in English, the use of modern technologies in the field of international online learning, to practice communication skills in English with native English speakers.
