The growing interest of applicants in engineering professions, an increase in the average score of the Unified State Exam and the expansion of both Russian and international geography: Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI) summed up the results of the admission campaign in 2025. The features of the admission campaign were announced during a press conference in TASS (Novosibirsk) by Sergey Chernov, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs at NSTU-NETI.
As part of the last admission campaign at NSTU-NETI, a record number of applications were submitted for all levels and forms of study in recent years — more than 17,000. Over 4,000 applicants are enrolled in the first year, more than 3,000 of whom are on a budget.
Sergey Chernov called the unprecedented growth of interest in engineering specialties the main feature of this year's admission campaign. The maximum increase in applications submitted — 2.5 times — was recorded at the Faculty of Physics and Technology. The number of applications for other engineering fields has increased significantly, by 50-80%.
Passing scores also increased by dozens of points, which led to an increase in the average EXAM score. The Faculty of Physics and Technology became the absolute leader: the passing score in the field of Photonics and Optoinformatics increased by 58 points. Among the most sought—after engineering areas that have shown high competition and passing scores are "Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering", "Applied Mathematics and Computer Science", "Automation of technological processes and production", "Chemical Technology", "Physics", "Design and technological support for machine-building industries" and "Aircraft Engineering".
"This growth is the result of a whole range of measures. First of all, there is an active state policy to support engineering education and large—scale career guidance work of the university itself. In two years, our Technostavniki project has reached more than 16,000 schoolchildren from 20 regions of Russia, including remote rural areas," said Sergey Chernov.
The quality of admission is also confirmed by the growing number of talented applicants: this year, NSTU-NETI selected twice as many winners and prize-winners of the All-Russian Olympiads (compared to last year). The new educational programs offered to this year's applicants have confirmed their relevance: the first enrollment for Russia's only dual degree program in mechanical engineering for Russian students, implemented jointly with Shenyang Institute of Technology, "Design and Technological Support for machine—building industries." In addition, more than 200 people enrolled in the joint programs of NSTU-NETI and Wuxi University: "Internet of Things", "Software Engineering" and "Big Data Technologies".
"NSTU-NETI is expanding the geography of both Russian and foreign applicants. More than 1,700 first—year students this year are from other regions of Russia. As for international students, representatives from 49 countries of the world are now studying at NSTU-NETI. This year, our university has enrolled the first students of preparatory courses, which were opened last fall on the basis of Russian houses in Burkina Faso and Niger. The applicants gave their preference to areas related to energy and automation in the oil and gas industry. As part of the expansion of cooperation with the Center for Public Diplomacy, we plan to open preparatory faculties in new countries such as Ghana, Guinea, Mali and Rwanda," the vice—rector said during a press conference.
Since September 1, a group of international students has also started studying as part of a targeted training program for the Niger oil company Sonidep.
"NSTU-NETI retains the status of a leader in targeted personnel training for the military-industrial complex. As part of this year's admission campaign, 130 people were enrolled under the target quota, the vast majority in the interests of defense industry enterprises. The competition for some areas of training reached 17-19 people per place," Sergey Chernov emphasized.
Among the customers of targeted training are leading enterprises of the defense industry and high—tech industries from all over Russia.: JSC "ISS named after Reshetnev", PJSC "UAC" (NAZ. Chkalov), JSC Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant, PJSC Rosseti Siberia, JSC Altai Khimprom and many others.
According to a separate quota for the children of participants in military operations and military operations on the territory of the Russian Federation and abroad, as well as the participants themselves, 136 people were enrolled, which is almost twice as many as in 2024.
