New educational programs and more than 3,000 budget places, additional opportunities for target students and the expansion of the geography of foreign applicants: Sergey Chernov, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI), spoke about the features of the admission campaign in 2025 at the TASS press center (Novosibirsk) on May 29.
"For Novosibirsk State Technical University, this year's admission campaign is special: the university celebrates its 75th anniversary. Over the years, more than 200,000 graduates have been trained, who occupy leading positions in many industries, are managers, chief engineers, technologists, and designers. The University is one of the largest universities in Siberia, maintaining the continuity of engineering training: eight out of 11 faculties specialize in engineering and technical areas.
Traditionally, IT fields are the most popular among applicants, and in recent years we have seen a steady increase in interest in engineering specialties. Energy, robotics, mechatronics, and aircraft manufacturing have become particularly in demand over the past two years.
Future students have every chance to get a free education in these areas: Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI) retains the status of a regional leader in the number of budget places. In 2025, the university will accept 3,336 students at all levels of education, including 2,286 for bachelor's and specialist's degrees, and 892 for master's degrees," Sergey Chernov said.
The leader in the number of budget places is traditionally the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering, which provides training in IT areas. A large number of budget places are available in specialties related to energy, automation, robotics and design. Traditionally, a large number of applicants are in the interests of the aircraft industry: NSTU-NETI is one of the few universities in the country that provide training in this field.
More than 17% of budget places are for the admission of students for targeted training in the interests of customer enterprises, and separate quotas are also provided for the admission of participating children and the participants themselves, the disabled, orphans and other categories of applicants.
"The new targeted recruitment mechanism has been implemented for the second year. NSTU-NETI is the largest university in the region in terms of target enrollment. At the moment, about a thousand target students are studying at the university. By enrolling at the university, these students understand who their employer will be, interact with them, and receive support during the learning process. This year, employers' proposals should appear on the specialized website "Work of Russia" by June 10, after which applicants can decide on the choice of both the university and the future employer. Defense industry enterprises operate in a special way: they are not legally required to submit their proposals on a designated website, and they interact directly with the university. Therefore, anyone who wants to study in the target form should contact the Department of pre—university education and decide on the company," Sergey Chernov emphasized.
This year, applicants also have the opportunity to receive additional points for the Unified State Exam upon admission to the target for career guidance activities of customer enterprises.
"Over the past three years, we have been actively expanding the geography of admission of international students. Traditionally, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan remain the leaders in the number of applicants, but now the vector is shifting towards Southeast Asia. We are launching large-scale joint educational programs with universities in China. Last year, a dual degree program was opened with Shenyang Institute of Technology, and this year several similar IT programs will be launched with Wuxi University. We expect more than 250 students from China. Also, together with the Kyrgyz Aviation Institute, NSTU-NETI is launching an aircraft engineering program — "Technical operation of aircraft". Recruitment for joint programs with universities of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, which were launched earlier, continues," the speaker noted.
Separately, the Vice—rector spoke about the only double degree program in Siberia in the field of mechanical engineering for Russian students, implemented jointly with the Shenyang Institute of Technology, "Design and Technological support for machine-building industries." For admission, the results of the Unified State Exam in Russian, specialized mathematics, physics or computer science are required. For the first two years, students will study at NSTU-NETI in Russian and intensively study Chinese, including from the zero level. In the 3rd and 4th year, students will study in China at world-class high-tech laboratories. Graduates of the program will receive two diplomas of higher education at once: from Novosibirsk and Chinese universities.
"This year, the first set of applicants who have completed their studies at the preparatory faculties of NSTU-NETI, opened on the basis of the Russian House of the Center for Public Diplomacy in Burkina Faso and Niger last fall, will take place. 58 students of the preparatory faculty are planning to enroll in our program, including the main educational programs related to energy and automation in the oil and gas industry," added Sergey Chernov.
Among the innovations of 2025, the Vice-rector also announced the master's program "Russian as a foreign language" of the Faculty of Humanities Education: "The opening of a new educational program is associated with a tremendously high demand for these specialists in the labor market. During their studies, undergraduates will complete internships in Indonesia, China, and Vietnam, combining their studies with work practice."
This year, the list of areas and specialties that can be applied to with the results of the Unified State Exam in chemistry has significantly expanded at NSTU-NETI. It includes areas related to materials science, ecology, and technosphere safety.
The admission campaign at NSTU-NETI starts on June 20. Detailed information for applicants is available on the university's website.
