A unique bachelor's degree program "Intelligent Transport Systems and Electric Mobility" has been launched at Novosibirsk State Technical University as part of the admission campaign for 2026. The project is being implemented in partnership with Shenyang Institute of Technology (SHTI), one of the most highly equipped engineering universities in China. Students will receive two diplomas at once, from Russian and Chinese universities, and competencies in the field of creating cars of the future.
A new program on 03/23/03 "Operation of transport and technological machines and complexes", profile "Intelligent transport systems and electric mobility", was opened at the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology (MTF). The training will take place in the "2+2" format: two years in Novosibirsk and two years in China, Liaoning province, where the production of global auto giants is concentrated.
Cooperation with STI is not just a language internship, but access to a world—class technological testing ground. "The Shenyang Institute of Technology is one of the most well—equipped in the field of mechanical engineering and automotive industry, even for China. There are workshops and laboratories on the campus where students take practical modules on real world—class production equipment," said Sergey Chernov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at NSTU-NETI.
The main advantage of the region (Liaoning Province) is direct contact with the industry. Students visit the largest automobile factories. For example, during a recent internship in China, MTF students visited a BMW factory, where car assembly is 95% automated.
Unlike standard automotive engineering programs, the new profile is aimed at the engineering elite. According to Evgeny Golovin, head of the program, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology at NSTU-NETI, the focus is on global trends — electric mobility and artificial intelligence.
"Now in China it is called "new energy cars" — hybrids and electric vehicles. Almost every Chinese car has a built-in AI and voice assistant. We will train specialists who are able not only to maintain such equipment, but also to develop it. We have an acute shortage of personnel who understand technical vision, automatic parking systems, terrain scanning and intelligent control systems. Graduates will be able to use all the knowledge and competencies gained during their studies to create domestic cars," explained Evgeny Golovin.
The curriculum combines a fundamental engineering school and advanced disciplines. In addition to microcontrollers and electric vehicle design, students will master the subjects "Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence Technology", "Intelligent Product Development" and "Fundamentals of Intelligent Car Technology".
According to Sergey Chernov, Vice-rector for Academic Affairs at NSTU-NETI, the program will be a continuation of the strategic partnership with China. "Liaoning Province is the heart of China's engineering industry. Students don't just learn a language; they immerse themselves in an environment where the technologies of tomorrow are created."
One of the main objectives of the program is to provide a profession + a language. Graduates will be fluent in Chinese business and technical languages. Taking into account the fact that Novosibirsk is a logistics hub for the supply of Chinese cars throughout the country, the demand for such specialists from service and distribution centers will be enormous, however, the university aims higher — at developers and designers of the domestic and global automotive industry.
"The new program is a step towards the formation of the Russian-Chinese engineering community. This is not just about operation, it is about reaching the level of reverse engineering and creating our own intelligent transport systems," Evgeny Golovin summed up.
The admission campaign started on June 20. You can apply until August 12 (admission to contract places). There are a total of 25 contract places in the direction.
The partnership program of 03/15/05 "Design and technological support of machine-building industries" together with SHTI also continues to recruit (15 contract places).
