Scientists from the Department of Design and Technology of Radioelectronic Devices at Novosibirsk State Technical University of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with Novosibirsk enterprises — NPP Zashchita LLC and NEVZ-CERAMICS JSC, have created an active multiband antenna for receiving signals from global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) and have released a pilot batch of products. A distinctive feature of the antenna is its high sensitivity and the ability to receive navigation signals in the main ranges available in the GNSS world (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou).
"The possibility of simultaneous operation in all ranges is very important to ensure the noise immunity and security of critical navigation systems in conditions of active use of electronic jamming and spoofing. Spoofing is a type of cyberattack in which the enemy uses a fake, more powerful than satellite or control signal, to impose false coordinates or control commands on the navigation receiver. As a result, the movement of the vehicle will follow the trajectory imposed by the enemy. The developed antenna, when placed on an aircraft, provides for the suppression of all interference from ground sources. The antenna's wide range makes it possible to implement adaptive anti—spoofing algorithms in the receiver by jointly processing signals coming from various satellites and different GNSS," said Alexey Vostretsov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor at the Department of Design and Technology of Radio Electronic Devices.
The antenna itself is implemented on the basis of an impact-resistant ceramic substrate specially developed at NEVZ-CERAMICS JSC. A wide (up to 100 MHz) operating frequency band is achieved by the original patented antenna design and topology. To increase sensitivity, the receiving antenna is supplemented with a broadband low-noise amplifier with low current consumption. The latter is especially important when installed on autonomous unmanned vehicles.
Samples from the pilot batch were tested by potential consumers in real conditions, including when exposed to spoofing at a special landfill. The test results confirmed its effectiveness. Currently, LLC "Protection" together with JSC "NEVZ-CERAMICS" are preparing for the serial production of antennas.
