A marathon of inclusive volunteering has started at Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI: From May to November, the university will train inclusive volunteers. They will be young people with disabilities, aged 25 and younger.
"Inclusive volunteering is a relatively new term. If previously only healthy people were engaged in volunteering, now we want to push the boundaries and show society that absolutely everyone can become a volunteer," said Anastasia Marsavina, project manager, graduate of the Institute of Social Technologies, NSTU NETI.
According to her, the marathon is the implementation of a social project called Границ.net. Within a few months, the project team will train at least 100 participants. During this time, future volunteers will take part in interactive training and workshops aimed at developing competencies and skills in communicating with people with various forms of disability. The geography of the project includes the Novosibirsk and Kemerovo Oblasts as well as the Altai Krai. The project is being implemented with the grant support of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
During the marathon, the team will test the participants at the "entrance" to the project and at its end, which will allow for a qualitative assessment of the volunteers' training results.
"The marathon is supposed to result in forming an inclusive interregional team of volunteers from students and working youth as well as creating an electronic database of inclusive volunteers so that the interested organizations could quick search and select trained volunteers to participate in the events where they are required," added Valeria Degtyareva, mentor of the project, Head of the Center for Inclusive Support of NSTU NETI.
