Students of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NETI) are developing algorithmic and software for listening and transcribing audio content (audiobooks, podcasts, etc.). It will greatly facilitate the work of specialists in various fields of activity.
The software developed as part of the project will be in demand when high-speed audio processing, transcription accuracy, the ability to work with various file formats, multilingual transcription support, and automatic processing of large volumes of audio content are required.
"At first, we had a telegram bot project that allowed us to download videos and audio from a sent link. We won the university's junior league project competition, and as part of the project, we decided to make an app that would not only be downloadable, but also have an additional transcription feature. In our application, a two—hour video is transcribed for about a minute," said Vitaly Zaozernov, one of the developers, a second-year student at the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering.
The product will be useful for teachers to process lecture material, students to create lecture notes and study other educational audio content, media staff to work with audio materials (interview processing), film and video production to create subtitles, as well as download videos with various effects, in the field of IT development to process voice messages.
The social significance of the project lies in the opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing people to learn the content of the video in the absence of captions, since transcription allows you to translate everything said into text. In the near future, students plan to create a full—fledged database for storing and quickly accessing files (a database of popular videos).
The development team: Vitaly Zaozernov, Anton Vasiliev, Alexander Leontiev — twice won the university student project competition (in the junior and senior leagues in the "IT projects" nomination). Currently, students are taking part in the "Your move" competition (track "I'm doing", direction "Research project").
