A vivarium for keeping antimicrobial mice and mice without specific pathogens has appeared at Novosibirsk State Technical University. The site was opened as part of the Priority 2030 program and is intended for both intra-university and partner projects.
The vivarium was opened on the basis of the Center for Technological Excellence of NSTU-NETI. The site has already been registered in the Federal State Veterinary Supervision Information System Mercury and has acquired the first animals - unique microbial mice-gnotobionts for preclinical studies of veterinary and agricultural products.
Currently, there are 35 animals in the vivarium, for which all the necessary conditions have been created. According to Arsalan Saidi, a junior researcher at the Center for Technological Excellence, keeping gnotobiont mice implies sterile conditions, special temperature and humidity parameters, a multi-stage protection system, special food and water.
Ekaterina Litvinova, head of the project "New Engineering solutions and artificial Intelligence for the Medical Industry" of the Priority 2030 program of NSTU-NETI, noted that the number of animals may increase. "These mice appeared for our projects, but for work commissioned by our partners, the number of animals can be increased, even supplies from China are possible if animals with certain qualities are needed," Ekaterina Litvinova noted.
According to the project manager, initially it is planned to test the biopolymer system developed at NSTU-NETI for the delivery of synbiotics into the intestines of animals, the effect of dressings based on modified chitosan for rapid wound healing and dietary supplements on mice.
