The finals of the international engineering championship CASE-IN 2021 was held in Moscow on May 31 — June 2. In 2021, almost 6,000 students took part in the qualifying stages across the country, 617 students from 40 regions of Russia and Belarus, and 100 young specialists from industry companies made it to the finals. To get to the final competition, the teams had to pass two stages: the qualifying / regional stage and the semi-finals for each district of the Russian Federation, where the best teams from each university competed.
The student league of the championship includes 8 categories:
· mining,
· exploration,
· electric power industry,
· metallurgy,
· oil and gas,
· petrochemicals,
· digital atom engineering,
· project engineering.
Two teams of Faculty of Power Engineering, NSTU NETI showed a high result in the category of "Electric Power Industry" and made it to the finals of the championship:
Creators-1.0: Alexandra Marchenko, Alexandra Rachenkova, Victoria Fedorova, Denis Kornilovich;
PowerNETI: Nurbolot Abdybekov, Sofia Bakhtieva, Tatiana Guseva, Maria Rezaeva.
The final competition in the category of "Electric Power Industry" are different from the other categories and take two days. On the first day of the finals, all teams presented the solution of their case in two parallel streams of 17 teams. The top three teams from each stream go to the next stage of the finals, where they receive a completely new task, which must be solved in 2 hours. After 2 hours of preparation, teams are to submit their decision to the commission and answer questions.
After numerous, long and time-consuming qualifying stages, the team Creators — 1.0, Faculty of Power Engineering, NSTU NETI was the third, beating almost 30 best teams from all over Russia.
The list of winners was headed by the team "KIUM100" of Platov South-Russian State Polytechnic University (NPI). The "WeWatt" team of the St. Petersburg Mining University was second.
Though PowerNETI team consisting of the third-year students of Faculty of Power Engineering did not enter the TOP 6 teams, it showed a decent result. Maria Rezaeva, the team captain, shares her impressions: "Our team gathered by chance during the break between the classes, we did not even think that we would be able to go to the semifinals, let alone to the finals. We didn't have enough experience for the finals, but next year we will correct our mistakes and come back for the victory!"
We congratulate the university teams on the achieved result and wish them future victories!
