Samara State Technical University (SamSTU) hosted the fifth all-Russian student Olympiad on relay protection and electric power systems automation. The Olympiad was held among 55 students from Samara Polytechnic University and eight other universities from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Irkutsk, Ivanovo, Kazan, Tomsk, Ufa and Novosibirsk.
Partners of the Olympiad included the branch of RAO Unified Energy System of Russia for the Middle Volga, OOO "NTC "Mekhatronika" and OOO "Radius IT". Olympiad is organized within the joint work plan of OAO FGC UES and RAO Unified Energy System of Russia on the basis of the activities of the RNC CIGRE youth section and student activities plan of RAO Unified Energy System of Russia. The operator is the "Nadyozhnaya Smena" Fund.
The participants had to solve several problems of different complexity levels in the following areas: calculation of short-circuit currents; current directed and non-directional protection of power lines; remote protection of power lines, protection of transformers, protection of electric motors, protection of blocks "generator - transformer"; automation of electrical networks.
NETI Team consisting of the 1st year Master Program students (Department of Electrical Stations of FPE) Yulia Petrova, Alexander Orlov, Igor Popov, Alexey Skakov, Andrey Ustinov won the 1st team place. The Head of NSTU NETI team was A. S. Trofimov, Associate Professor of the Power Plants Department, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
