An all-Russian event “The Big Ethnographic Dictation” will take place in every constituent entity of the Russian Federation the day before the National Unity Day, on November 2.
NSTU will host the dictation event in the 5th academic building, in lecture hall 6 at 14:00 (registration starts at 13:40). For the third time the flagship university of the region provides the venue for “The Big Ethnographic Dictation”. The organizers anticipate 150 people to write the dictation in NSTU in 2018.
“The rationale behind organizing the dictation is to introduce people to culture, to the historical past, to the viewpoints of other nations. One more important consideration is to connect people and make them understand the specificity of other cultures, because it is not the dictation itself that is vital but the preparation to it, as it requires everybody to get to know the culture of other peoples” said Sergey Fedorchuk, the Minister of Education of the Novosibirsk region. The Big Ethnographic Dictation will include 30 questions, 20 of which are concerned with the history and culture of the Russian Federation. The remaining two will regard the history and culture of the Novosibirsk region.
Residents of Russia and foreign countries, fluent in Russian, will be able to participate in the dictation. The level of education, religious affiliation, social status, and citizenship are not important. There are also no age restrictions. The dictation is supposed to take 45 minutes. The highest score for all tasks done is 100 points.
The dictation will help assess the level of ethnographic literacy, the knowledge about the peoples living in Russia. The dictation is supposed to draw attention to such field of science as ethnography which takes an important place in establishing the harmony of interethnic relations.
Those, who for some reason cannot check their knowledge at the regional locations, will be able to pass an online-test on the site of the Big Ethnographic Dictation.
Russia has been holding this wide scale event for three years in a row. In 2017 the event became international with joining Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova and others countries of the CIS.
The answers to the questions and explanation on the common mistakes will be published on the site of the dictation on November 2, 2018. The individual results will be published on December 12, 2018.
Last year 367 thousand people wrote the dictation at 2,600 platforms in Russia and abroad.
The project is organized with the help of the Presidential Grants Foundation.
