Novosibirsk State Technical University and "RusBITech-Astra" company, a Russian manufacturer of operating systems, signed an agreement on establishing Astralinux training center at the university.
Astralinux authorized training center runs training courses for system administrators, information security specialists and the Russian operating system Astralinux CE and SE users.Astralinux SE is used in secured information systems as a means of information protection; it is certified by the FSS, FSTEC and Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The existing information protection capabilities of Astralinux SE against unauthorized access allow certifying information systems for the 1st class of information security requirements according to the FSTEC Russia certification system. This is the only operating system in Russia that can be used in the work with the state secret of the highest degree of secrecy.
According to Ivan Reva, the Dean of Automation and Computer Engineering Faculty, "this Russian operating system is a logical and reliable replacement for foreign products within the launched in 2014 state policy of import substitution and technological independence in the field of IT. Nowadays, when any imported information technology has remote control, the protection of proprietary information at every workplace, in every computer, in every server becomes a matter of national security".
Astralinux courses at NSTU include:
- A two-day course for users that introduces the basic techniques of operating system configuration, work in the Office Suite LibreOffice editors and multimedia applications; three administration courses (basic, advanced and network) depending on students competence; a special course aimed at training information security specialists based on Astralinux SE capabilities.
- According to Andrei Ivanov, the head of Information Security Department ACEF, NSTU, in many agencies and enterprises the departments of information technology (IT) and information security (IS) often work separately. This situation does not meet the current challenges; the security of information infrastructure should be a direct responsibility of IT departments as well. That's where the skills and abilities of IT staff to work with certified protection software will be valuable, just as the knowledge of the legislation requirements and regulatory documents in the field of information security. We teach all these at our special course.
At the end of the course the attendees receive both the standard certificate of achievement and the "RusBITech-Astra" certificate. There are options for full-time and distance learning formats. NSTU plans to expand the range of courses to develop own programs of further education, for example, for the training of civil servants to work efficiently with a full package of domestic software.
