The autumn donors’ initiative "Our gift in the name of life" was held at NSTU for the 10th time. On October, 24-25 about 200 students and staff members of NSTU donated blood.
The event was aimed at collecting blood in order to save lives of people and draw public attention to the problems of health. The initiative was organized by the students of NSTU. Traditionally, the event is held twice a year on October, 24-25 and April, 24-25. Within 2 days 72 liters of blood was collected.
According to organizers, 33.19 litres were collected on the first day and 39.15 on the second. Several hundreds of students take part in the initiative every year. Usually, students constitute 80% of the total number of participants and staff members constitute 20%. The Rector of NSTU Anatoly Bataev also took part in the current initiative.
According to Anton Anikeev, the third-year student of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering and the organizer of the initiative: "This year there are about 250 people who want to donate their blood. However, one fifth of them failed to pass the blood test because of flu symptoms or not following recommendations for donors, such as not to eat dairy products in the morning or to abstain from smoking for a while. Nevertheless, I would like to point out that in comparison with previous years, this year people are more responsible and socially conscious".
The blood donation can be done by everyone above the age of 18 with a residence permit in Novosibirsk or Novosibirsk region. The potential donor should be without viral hepatitis, HIV and hypertensive disease in past medical history. Those who donated blood were given some money reward, a promotional mug and a baked roll with sweet tea.
