The beginning of the summer holidays in the Energy Class coincided with the start of the summer profile session "Energy-Saving Technologies", which was held from June 3 to 10, 2021 at the Faculty of Power Engineering, NSTU NETI.
This profile session turned out to be very intense. First of all, the students dwelt on the relevance of energy saving, developed the skill of selecting information using the "fish-bone" educational technology. Then Anastasia Zhdanovich, the head of the Energy Class, Associate Professor of the Industrial Power Supply Systems Department held an interactive lecture on the types of electric lighting. The students learned the designs and principles of all existing types of indoor and outdoor lighting lamps functioning and participated in a laboratory workshop in educational laboratories illumination searching for the most effective lamps for classrooms.
Further, the participants were able to learn other ways to save energy through the EnergySave business game whose educational goal is to expand their horizons in saving heat and electricity.
The following days were devoted to solving a case on improving energy efficiency at school. The high school students were divided into three teams, made calculations and analysis and presented their results. The session ended with their projects defense . All participants were awarded with certificates and souvenirs.
"It is not the first time that I am convinced that the format of time-intensive work is the most interesting and effective for high school students. On the one hand, they do not have time to get tired, since training does not turn to routine, on the other hand, they learn a lot of new things and, most importantly, immediately apply knowledge to solve practical problems. Tasks are usually complex and multifaceted, so they are solved in a team. Every time we try to rotate, combine the guys into microgroups in different ways. Students admit that they look at themselves and their opportunities in new teams in a different way. Teamwork is a very important skill, and we pay a lot of attention to its development in the Energy Class, NSTU NETI," comments Anastasia Zhdanovich, the curator of the profile session.
This session opens a cycle of project intensive courses of the Green School Energy Class, whose purpose is to study various ways of saving electric and thermal energy in schools and other educational institutions, including engineering calculation and analysis of payback periods. The next two sessions will be devoted to wind and solar energy.
