The Olympic Champion Irina Minkh, the Minister of Sport of the Novosibirsk Region Sergey Akhapov and the NSTU Rector Anatoly Bataev were the first to meet the Universiade Flame at NSTU on December, 10. Several hundred students came to greet the Flame. Overnight December, 10 into December, 11 the Flame was under guard at NSTU.
On December, 11 the Ceremony of opening Novosibirsk leg of the 2019 Winter Universiade Torch relay started in front of the second teaching block of NSTU. The first torchbearer was the winner of 2018 Summer Universiade in track and field athletics Igor Maksimov, who is also a master’s student of the Faculty of Power Engineering and International Master of Sports. Thousands of NSTU students took part in the festive program.
The Relay runners ran up to the Gorskiy snowboard-park. The 2014 Olympics’ snowboard bronze medalist and the 2019 Winter Universiade Envoy Aliona Zavarzina went down the track with the Torch and the repeat winner of Russian national ski races Dmitry Salnikov brought it up.
The total distance of the 2019 Winter Universiade Torch relay in Novosibirsk is 2600 km. It went through the main streets situated on the right and left banks of the Ob’-river. The second half of the Relay continued from Novosibirsk University of Architecture and civil Engineering at 13.30.
20 Torch Bearers ran through Novosibirsk with the 2019 Winter Universiade Flame. Among them were Sergey Gerasimov - the World Cup Swimming Prize winner, Champion among military men, President of Novosibirsk Swimming Federation, Tatiana Galkina – the President of the Siberian Bank (Sberbank), Denis Mikhrenin – the Head of the Group of the Coca-Cola HBS Russia Sales Representatives, and Larissa Moleganova - the Director of the FORWARD Company representative office.
The 2019 Winter Universiade Torch Relay finished with lighting the Novosibirsk Cauldron on the Pimenov Square before the State Public Scientific Technological Library. After that the 2019 Winter Universiade Flame was taken to Tomsk for the next leg of the Relay which was to start on December, 15.
