Studies of the research group were supported by grants from the Federal program and the Russian Scientific Fund and the agreement with OAO Tyumenenergo called «Development of a frequency-dependant resistor for suppression of high-frequency overvoltages».

A number of works for OAO Tyumenenergo related to diagnostics of high-voltage electrical equipment was performed. One of the latest work among the most significant studies was the development of a frequency-dependent device for suppression of high-frequency overvoltages. The idea is that an anomalous skin-effect is realized within a special multi-layered material. Owing to this effect, the device's resistance increases for more than four orders of magnitude with increasing frequency.
When interposing in series before the transformer, the device reduces both the amplitude and, which is of high importance for Northern regions, the lighting pulse steepness. This is especially important for the so-called narrow pulse, the most dangerous for inter-winding transformer insulation. Three prototypes were developed, tested, manufactured and installed in trial operation. Monitoring of the frequency-dependent device performance is currently being carried out.
