November, 7 - 9 NSTU NETI will host Community Hackathon of the project "Sphere of influence: Universities to local communities".
The project is dedicated to the development and transformation of the left-bank Novosibirsk territories. According to preliminary agreement with Novosibirsk mayor's office, the hackathon outcomes can form the basis of real projects for the city development. Participants of the hackathon will have to solve the problems of ten different left-bank Novosibirsk territories. Among them are: Orbita, the abandoned Soviet space communication station, Marks Square, the problems of the NSTU NETI campus and the notorious crossing to be built on Lyshchinsky Square. Orbita is an abandoned TV station with a giant satellite dish in Bugrinskaya Grove. The mayor's office together with NSTU NETI are framing the concept of the territory development. According to one of the projects, the TV station is going to be adapted for a technical museum.
Students will develop proposals for the reconstruction and transformation of Karl Marks Square. The square is expected to become the end point of the walking route for guests of the 2023 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship. However, now there are no appropriate public spaces on the square, such as parks or other recreational areas. The current landmarks are irregular street trading and an unfinished hotel.
There are also several problem areas on NSTU NETI campus.
"The roofs of NSTU NETI". Hopefully, there soon will appear the University terraced spaces for the residents and students with a new vantage point, so that students could sit there and say: "Wow, it's NSTU!" The problem is the leaking roofs, which can be aggravated by active use.
"E-sports and more" case There is no place on campus where students can gather after 6 pm to prepare for classes or work on the projects. The main problem is the large number of fast food stalls located near the presumed premises.
"The University beyond the gates of the University." The problem: people smoking at all exits of the University and disturbing not only non-smoking students, but also people living in the nearby. We need an infrastructure solution to improve the University campus.
"Three planes" The issue is connected with Shukshin Alley on Geodezicheskaya Street. Task: "How to transform a problem space into a creative one by integrating a University project into the urban environment?» Shukshin Alley is a long forgotten area bustling with smoking students and public transport passengers. It is a transit area whose potential, though not fully suitable for recreational activities, is not used.
One of the important topics of the hackathon will be the conflict over the construction of an overhead crossing on Lyshchinsky Square. The planned transition will be a serious problem for the disabled population, as it does not include elevators. Because of this, more than 190 Novosibirsk citizens signed a petition against its construction.
The hackathon will be attended by 150 students from Novosibirsk State University, Tomsk State University, Perm State National Research University, Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI, Reshetnev Siberian State University (Krasnoyarsk), Kemerovo State University, Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University, Novokuznetsk branch of Kemerovo State University and others. Participants will be majoring in different fields: sociology, conflict research, architecture, landscape design, engineering and others.
For three days, student groups guided by experts will brainstorm to find solutions for the optimal use of Novosibirsk problem areas at the Left Bank of the Ob. As a result, they should present ready-made solutions of the territory issues. Further, the final project documents are planned to be shared with city authorities, owners of the territories and the parties concerned for implementation.
Among the experts of the hackathon are: Igor Popovsky, architect; Tatiana Ivanenko, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the "Golden capital" festival; Irina Skalaban, conflict researcher; Lada Yurchenko, Director of Investment and Projects Department (Agency for Strategic Initiatives Novosibirsk Oblast): Alexander Kholodov, integrated territory development consultant; Evgeny Dubrovin, creative environment developer.
Partners of the project are the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Kirovsky district administration, Novosibirsk, "Novoterra" school of social entrepreneurship, Novosibirsk Public Social Initiatives Support Fund "Obshcheye Delo" (Common Cause), Siberian Center for Support of Public Initiatives, administration of "Bugrinskaya Roshcha" municipal park, NSTU NETI "Boiling Point".
The event will be held on November, 7 - 9 in the building of Lyschinsky Scientific Library, NSTU NETI. Venue: pr. K. Marksa, 20; building 8a. Time from 9: 00 to 20: 00.
