On November13th - 26th, NSTU NETI specialists trained 96 students from 16 universities in Russia according to the developed modular network program of additional education "Inclusive volunteering at the University”.
Inclusive higher education is becoming more and more popular. NSTU NETI has increased the number of students with disabilities by 40% over the past 4 years. Nowadays there are 240 students with disabilities who study at the University. Special structures are involved in the process of teaching students with special educational needs. These structures provide psychological, medical and socio-cultural support. But without the development of the volunteer movement among students the process of socialization and integration of students with disabilities would be less effective. Students of the Altai, Baikal, Transbaikal, Tuvan, Gorno-Altaisk Universities, Katanov State University of Khakassia, Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Irkutsk State Transport University, Kryachkov Novosibirsk State University of Architecture, Design and Arts and other Universities from the subjects of the Russian Federation participated in the program.
The program "Inclusive volunteering at the University" was an online course and included several thematic blocks: from the general principles of volunteering to specific cases on interaction with people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system, vision, hearing and other diseases. During the program, future volunteers developed the core competencies and skills necessary for the effective communication with students with disabilities. As a result of the course, students received certificates.
"We are very happy that there are students who are interested in such training, who have a sincere internal motivation to volunteer in the field of inclusive education. Institute of Social Technology regularly hosts events with the participation of students with disabilities. Recently it was the Abilympics championship, where our volunteer students took an active part in organizing and conducting. Their help is very relevant and demanded today, " says Lyudmila Osmuk, the Director of the Institute of Social Technologies, NSTU NETI.
