On December 11, the national exhibition "VUZPROMEXPO-2019" will start in Moscow. It demonstrates the results of the State and Federal target programs implementation in the field of science and industry. Engineers and scientists of NSTU NETI will present a facility for in-situ study of the metals and alloys structure evolution in the process of dry sliding friction, which is expected to be used in the work the shared research center "Siberian Synchrotron and Terahertz Radiation Centre" (SRC SSTRC).
They will also present the results of developing the metal filaments (wires) for 3D printing on a new generation printer and enhanced accuracy projectiles for the legendary D-30 howitzer. More than 100 leading Russian universities and scientific organizations, 26 engineering centers, scientific and educational centers, and leading companies of the Russian industry will take part in the events of "VUZPROMEXPO-2019". The organizer is the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. The main theme of "VUZPROMEXPO-2019" will be the discussion of the national projects "Science" and "Education" implementation in 2019. Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI scientists and engineers will present a number of breakthrough developments at the exhibition.
One of the important developments of NSTU NETI Mechanical Engineering and Technology Faculty’s engineers and scientists is raw metal materials in the form of filaments for 3D printing on a new generation printer developed by specialists of the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science SB RAS (ISPMS SB RAS). Now, the most widespread printers use laser radiation heating. The printer created by ISPMS SB RAS scientists uses a focused electron beam as a heating source. Layer-by-layer vacuum sintering allows using a wide range of metals and alloys to ensure high quality of the product material. The parts created by such a printer will find application in aerospace and other industries of the Russian Federation. Electron beam printer uses material in the form of filaments for the formation of products. Filaments can be both monolithic wires and powder.
In addition, NSTU NETI scientists will present a facility to study the structure of metals in the friction process using synchrotron radiation. The device allows placing the experimental sample subjected to friction in the X-ray zone with a diameter of 1µ. Unlike X-ray radiation traditionally used to study the changes of metals in the process of friction the synchrotron radiation characterized by high intensity makes it possible to study the process at the level of atomic structures, that is, with maximum detail. The installation makes it possible to study metals and their alloys based on iron, copper, aluminum, titanium. Now NSTU NETI scientists are investigating the friction processes of rail steels in order to find ways to improve the wear resistance of rails. These experiments are carried out on the basis of Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS. In addition, a number of studies were previously conducted at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility located in Grenoble (France). The use of the installation on the equipment created within the national project "Science" at the SRC SSTRC is assumed to allow conducting research at a fundamentally new level of accuracy.
"By studying the evolution of the metal structure at the level of the crystal lattice we will be able to change metals purposefully, not randomly, as is often the case now. Perhaps, as a result, we will be able to significantly increase the wear resistance of materials, and thus significantly extend the service life of various machines and mechanisms, because the friction process is present in almost all modern mechanisms," said Anatoly Bataev, NSTU NETI Rector, Professor of Materials Science in Mechanical Engineering Department. The installation for the study of metal friction is intended to be used for research cooperation of Siberian universities which study the properties of materials, in particular NSU, TSU, TPU and NSTU NETI.
At the exhibition, engineers of NSTU NETI will present a new high-explosive projectile of enhanced accuracy and power for the D-30 howitzer and 2S1 self-propelled howitzer "Gvozdika". The accuracy of the projectile was increased by 30% owing to the new design of the leading belt which is no longer a separate part, but is made as a whole with the shell body. Accordingly, the balance of the projectile is improved which led to an increase in its accuracy. Howitzer D-30 and SPG "Gvozdika" are among the most common artillery guns in the world; they are in active military service of Russia's Armed Forces and at about sixty foreign countries.
In addition to the exhibition demonstrating the development of Russian universities and research organizations, there is an eventful business program. The discussion subject will be the development of world-class scientific and educational centers, the digitalization of education, the strengthening of cooperation between educational and scientific organizations and business, real career paths for young scientists and specialists. These issues will also become a starting point for the new instructions and concrete actions to increase the pace of work, to achieve the strategic goals of Russia's scientific and technological development.
The exhibition and business program of the 6th national exhibition "VUZPROMEXPO-2019" will also be attended by the leaders of Russian industry and business who are actively cooperating with Russian universities and scientific organizations within the cooperation programs of science and business: AEROFLOT- Russian airlines, the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, United Company RUSAL, companies belonging to ROSTEC State Corporation and many others. One of the industrial participants of the exhibition will be "KAMAZ" Group of Companies which will also hold a press conference on the "VUZPROMEXPO" site dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the company.
"VUZPROMEXPO" stands as mandatory for participation in the calendar of events of the Russian scientific and educational process society and companies that have defined innovation as a mechanism of their development. And it is not just about visiting, but about actively using the site's resource to present the latest products and developments, conclude agreements and new partnership contacts. “In the context of the national projects implementation, such as “Science” and “Education”, the exhibition is a fully working mechanism to achieve the goals,” said Mikhail Kotyukov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation.
In addition to plenary sessions, panel discussions and round tables, a series of events for schoolchildren, students, graduates and young scientists is expected at the "VUZPROMEXPO-2019" exhibition. The event also comprises workshops in high-tech business entrepreneurship, presentation of internships and vacancies for young people in leading Russian companies, and presentation of academic classes for schoolchildren.
Within two days, according to the organizers, at least 10 thousand people are expected to visit "VUZPROMEXPO-2019" exhibition which will be held in the central exhibition complex "Expocenter".
