Programmers of Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI along with Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory created an information system of the Siberian musical culture.
The project combined three large categories: traditional music of indigenous peoples and settlers, liturgical music of Old Believers and other confessions, as well as everything related to academic creativity, education and enlightenment, and popular musical culture.
The system was created by the members of the Information Technology Laboratory of the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering of the Novosibirsk State Technical University NETI headed by Nikolai Chistyakov.
The system consists of the original text and illustrative materials, information about the latest achievements in regional music studies, which are of interest both for specialists in this area and for art experts, culture experts, historians, and local history experts. Now the database contains not only folk songs but also the compositions of Yanka Diaghileva or information about the band "Kalinov Most".
"Identifying and describing printed, handwritten, audio and video sources, we turned to modern information and reference publications, librarys' and archives' online catalogs, databases of research projects. We summarized and analyzed materials, compiled new registers or replenished the existing ones, prepared annotations, and included new information in the system. In the process of this work, we managed to confirm the status of little-known organizations and figures who played a certain role in collecting, storing sources, and researching the music of the region. Sometimes, there were just discoveries," said Natalia Leonova the professor of the Department of Ethnomusicology, Glinka Novosibirsk State Conservatory.
In the future, the system will enable researching the music of Siberia, eliminating inaccuracies and preserving musical works.
