Resource Training and Methodology Center for the Training People with Disabilities (RTMC) NSTU NETI specialists took part in the business program of the 6th Abilympics National Professional Skills Championship for the people with disabilities.
On November 25, there was a panel discussion on "Employment Assistance for the Graduates with Disabilities and Workplace Adaptation" which gathered the representatives of RTMC network universities, Department of Labor and Social Protection of Moscow, The Council of All-Russian Organization for Parents of Children with Disabilities, Yandex company, HR Department of the Russian Institute of Additional Professional Education.
Specialists of RTMC NSTU NETI shared their experience of the Employment Assistance Service at the University and told about its practices and main tasks. The event participants noted the special importance of holding joint professional competitions with major employers, as these competitions provide an opportunity for students and graduates with disabilities to find internships, trainings and work with experienced mentors.
The Competition "The Path to a Career", organized by the RTMC NSTU NETI together with The Business Advisory Board on Disability "Perspektiva", was presented as an example of a successful action. As a result of the competition, every fifth finalist was employed immediately, and almost half of the finalists were employed based on their experience and established personal relationships and contacts within six to nine months after the competition .
"To increase the chances for a future job, we propose to develop the alternative forms of employment. These are self-employment, freelancing, and remote work, especially during the pandemic. It is essential to develop soft skills for graduates with disabilities that are relevant to the contemporary labor market, " said Lyudmila Mozheikina, head of Vocational Guidance and Employment Assistance Service of RTMC NSTU NETI, head of Center of Inclusive Assistance NSTU NETI.
The event was organized by The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and public organizations of people with disabilities.
