Teams of roboticists of Novosibirsk State Technical University NATI "Urfin" and "Lightning Thieves" preparations for the "Battle of Robots" project are actively continuing. Two collected works will be sent to the championship in October this year, where they will compete with rivals from other cities and countries.
"Robot Battle" is a competition in which different types of robots compete on a specially designed platform or arena. During the championship, robots are controlled by operators or software algorithms and strive to defeat or disable rivals. Competitions can have different formats and rules, often include different types of combat tasks, such as destroying or capturing rivals, protecting your own robots, and so on. The main goal of the "Battle of Robots" championship is the development of robotic movement and the formation of technical and digital competencies among the participants.
As in any competition, the battle of robots has its own rules. They may vary depending on the organization or event where the competition is held. But there are also standard norms of participation in the championships. So, robots must conform to the set size and weight. They can be armed with various types of weapons: saws, sledgehammers, hammers, etc. And most importantly, robots must pass a safety check and be protected from accidental exposure to spectators and judges.
Such competitions are usually organized for robotics enthusiasts and professional engineers. This year, 67 teams from 20 regions of the Russian Federation and 10 foreign teams showed up to participate in the robot battle.
A team of engineering students of the Novosibirsk State Technical University of NETI, led by Associate Professor, Candidate of Technical Sciences Alexey Tsygulin, assembled two powerful and efficient robots and advanced to the second round of the competition.
"It all started with the fact that the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation launched the Battle of Robots project and sent out a proposal to universities in the country. I liked this idea because it allows me to attract young people to engineering. Four teams were assembled at NSTU NETI, two of which went to the federal championship, and from the remaining two we formed another team that began to actively develop its design," said Alexey Tsygulin.
According to him, the functions of robots are to fight with their rivals – the same robots. To win, you need to be very fast and have time to strike at the enemy while moving. The robot must be strong and stable enough so that nothing gets loose during the battle. For example, one of the assembled robots has a large axe on the top of its head, which spins up to 3,000 revolutions per minute. It is he who will help in the destruction of enemy developments during the battle. The robot is controlled remotely from the control panel, and during the battles the viewer can see not just the blows of rivals, but a cascade of sparks and even real fire.
"This year we performed with our robots at the International Forum of Technological Development "Technoprom-2023". This site has become a great place to declare yourself, show robots and the idea of the championship. Thanks to the support of the government of the Novosibirsk Region, we were allocated a platform for demonstration fights at the forum. There we assembled a small piece of the arena and brought two robots that were already ready for the championship. Our robots are very powerful and energetic, so for safety we have equipped the arena with a steel floor. A protective polycarbonate coating was installed around it and on top. The size of a real arena should be 10 by 10 meters, the height of the internal volume is 3 meters, but a platform of 2.5 x 5 meters was made for Technoprom. The performances of our robots at the forum helped us to feel the atmosphere of the upcoming championship even more," commented Alexey Tsygulin.
Reference: According to the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation, starting from 2023, the "Battle of Robots" championship will be held annually. Coordination of the preparation and holding of the championship will be carried out by the Ministry of Finance. An organizing committee has been created for the organizational, technical and expert support of the championship. Double U Expo LLC will act as the operator of the championship, and Promobot LLC will be responsible for technical expertise.
