A new cycle of the competition "Leaders of Russia" has started, with one of its special features being the "Science" category carried out jointly by INPO "Russia is the country of opportunities" and the Coordinating Council for Youth Affairs in the scientific and educational fields of the Presidential Council on Science and Education with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia.
The administration of NSTU NETI decided to establish an internal grant for the employees of NSTU NETI who will become semi-finalists and finalists of the competition. Up to 300 thousand rubles can be invested in the development of a technological startup or the implementation of a project which is important for the economy of a region or the country. The grant money can be spent on the purchase of scientific equipment, research, innovation marketing, patent audit, certification and trial batches production.
"We see the competition "Leaders of Russia" as one of the most important for us; we always encourage our young employees to participate in it. We want our young scientists to be able not only to calculate, design and create models, but also to be able to become managers for their projects, present their projects, seek investments for them and establish business connections. "Leaders of Russia" really helps to achieve this. For instance, Alexey Chuvaev, the head of the Lean Laboratory, made it to the semifinal of the competition last year. After participating in the competition he received some orders from several large enterprises to train their employees in our laboratory. We can see the real effect of participating in this event. It is important to make sure our young scientists take part in the project. Even if they don't win, our investments will still pay off with the development of the university, the development of our staff capacity,” Anatoly Bataev, NSTU NETI Rector explained.
“Participating in the competition helped my project to be supported. The reporters of the national TV, such as Channel One and Russia-1, came to shoot some reports about it. I had a chance to attend the workshops of well-known people in the business field: Mark Kukushkin, a recognized Russian business coach, and Dmitry Konov, Chair of the Board of PAO "SIBUR Holding"). In the semifinal, there were many incredibly progressive people you can learn a lot from. Besides, there were colleagues from a similar field of activity, and I got a lot of useful contacts in the field of lean production," Alexey Chuvaev recalled his participation in the 2018 contest.
Mikhail Kotykov, "Science" category tutor and the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation said at briefing that more than 10 thousand applications had been submitted by October 16th. He also reminded that the deadline for submitting applications for participation in the "Leaders of Russia" competition is a little more than 10 days (the registration will last until the October 27th). To enter the competition one needs to meet a number of criteria: being a Russian citizen, under 50 years old, having experience in the field of research and development, publishing at least one research or journalistic paper in the chosen field.
"Science is a specific field. It is not enough to have knowledge only in management but also you have to get the idea of what the subject is and have basic competence and experience. We expect our contestants to have these qualities. Mikhail Kotyukov notes that well-known statesmen and heads of large corporations and businesses will become mentors for the winners of the competition.
There will be up to 30 winners in the "Science" category. Criteria by which the participants will be judged are systemic and critical thinking, communication and social responsibility, creativity and leadership, scientific product life cycle management. The winners and finalist of the contest will have the opportunity to take posts in leading universities, scientific organizations, large corporations and government agencies with scientific and educational focus.
The Coordinating Council invites candidates to take part in the contest. The winners will have a chance to do their internships and take managerial positions in leading Russian universities and scientific organizations, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and relevant regional ministries, the positions of heads of REC, scientific and educational projects, and to join the coordinating Council, etc. They will have the opportunity to adopt the best experience from the leaders of the Russian science: Members of the Presidential Council of Science and Education, heads of major universities and research organizations, heads of corporations and the leading Russian scientist will become mentors for the winners of the contest.
