25 Russian universities, among them Novosibirsk State Technical University were included into the top 2000 Webometrics Ranking of World Universitie.
The published part of the rating includes 364 Russian universities (1160 Russian universities were evaluated in total). They are headed by Lomonosov Moscow State University (222 position), St. Petersburg State University (424), NRU HSE (562), ITMO University (650) and TSU (701).
The ranking is based on the analysis of the universities representation in the global Internet. The Webometrics project creators aim at promoting the universities in the research publishing and presenting it to a wider audience.
There are about 12,000 universities in the ranking. Filtering by country allows getting acquainted with the world and national positions of the universities that are not included in the published ranking list. The developers rated the sites of more than 28,000 universities in the world to compile the ranking.
The ranking was headed by Harvard and Stanford universities, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Oxford University and the University of California at Berkeley.
Only three of the top 20 universities are outside the United States. These are Oxford and Cambridge Universities (Great Britain) with the fourth and eleventh positions respectively, and University of Toronto (Canada).
Earlier, in November 2018 NSTU was included into the World University Rankings by subject: physical sciences . The rating was compiled by the established educational magazine Times Higher Education (THE) and published on the website of the magazine on November, 8th.

The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Spanish National Research Council, the largest public research body in Spain The rating was first published in 2004 and has been published twice a year since.
Universities were evaluated by four indicators: presence, visibility, openness (transparency), excellence. Presence, taking up 5%, is the number of web pages hosted on the main University domain indexed by Google. All file types are taken into account. Visibility, taking up 50%, measures the number of external domains with links to University web pages. Sources of information are the links monitoring system ahrefs and Majestic. Transparency or Openness, taking up 10%, is the number of links to the most cited University researchers according to Google Scholar Citations. Excellence, taking up 35%, is the number of scientific publications of the University for the five-year period (2012-2016) included into the 10% of the most cited works within 26 scientific fields according to the research group SCImago which conducts a comprehensive analysis of publications indexed by Scopus scientometric system.
