NSTU NETI has developed an educational program in English to train the engineering elite
"We believe that the graduates of this educational program will be in demand at industrial enterprises and scientific organizations that are engaged in the creation and research of new and traditional materials. But the SKIF synchrotron radiation source will be the main employer of the graduates. It was organized as part of the Akademgorodok 2.0 project," says Natalia Plotnikova, head of the Education Strategy Department, NSTU NETI.
NSTU NETI developed an advanced educational program in materials science and technology of materials together with MISIS National University of Science and Technology. Mikhail Gorshenkov, Igor Shchetinin and Vladislav Zadorozhny, associate professors of Physical Materials Science Department, MISIS, were among the program developers. The new program provides for the study of the disciplines "Physical properties of materials", "Spectroscopic and probe methods" (a block of elective subjects) in a remote format, with classes being taught by MISIS teachers.
"Participation in Federal projects is very important for the development of the University. This allows us to collaborate with the country's leading universities and learn from our colleagues' best practices. Materials Science training at NSTU NETI was established more than 50 years ago. Today it is being developed by one of the youngest and most successful teams of the university. Over the past six years, the team has been working towards training masters students in English, which allowed attracting foreign students to the University. The new educational program for the training of masters in Materials Science and Technology of Materials will help to increase the number of applicants from both Russia and abroad", commented Anatoly Bataev, NSTU NETI rector.
Employees of NSTU NETI and NUST MISIS have developed two online courses. The discipline "Methods of Materials Structural Analysis" is placed as a mass open online course (MOOC) in Russian and is currently available at Stepik platform (https://stepik.org/course/70973/promo). The discipline "Phase Transformations" is to be placed as a mass open online course (MOOC) in English on an international open platform.
Industrial partners participation is one of the compulsory conditions of the project realization. "Novosibirsk Cartridge Plant" is ready to be such a partner. Employees of the enterprise acted as experts of the developed advanced educational program. The advantages of the program are individual educational trajectory, as well as a project approach to training based on the real tasks and preparing an employment-ready professional immediately after graduation.
