On February 26, in Tomsk, students of Novosibirsk State Technical University became the winners of "Siberia" top division among men's basketball teams. They won three out of three games at the final stage.
"Our opponents were prepared, and they had every chance to win. But our team, in addition to being tight-knit, was also strong. In my opinion, we succeeded because we have as many as four leaders among the players. When the opponents set up their defences against one, the other scored, " commented on the game Georgy Zorin, a master's student of the Business Faculty, NSTU NETI and the center player of the University's team.
Based on the results of the game, Semyon Sigunov, third-year student, the Faculty of Automation and Computer Engineering, became the MVP of the Championship.
"I didn't expect to win, to be honest, so I was very happy. Despite the fact that I have been playing basketball for 10 years and this is not my first MVP title, it was still unexpected for me. Of course, I am grateful to my dream team. It's a pleasure to play with the guys in one team", said Semyon Sigunov, the point guard of the NSTU team.
Tomsk State Pedagogical University's sport complex hosted the finals of the "Siberia" top division, represented by students from universities of the Siberian Federal district. 9 men's and 8 women's teams participated in the 2019/2020 season.
The NSTU basketball team is waiting for the final stage of the Association of Student Basketball (ABS) Belov League Championship with the participation of 64 men's and 64 women's strongest student teams of Russia. Winning this division of the ASB Championship allows entering the Belov league without qualification matches.
