During the first term in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Technologies within the framework of project activities the students developed a design of badges for the future graduates and printed their prototypes on a 3D printer.
Project participants are 3rd and 4th year students of NSTU. The guys were divided into 11 teams of 2-3 people. Before developing sketches of new badges, students had to conduct a study of all the symbols of the departments. The main requirement for the work of the first stage was to develop at least four sketches of the round badge required for 3D printing size, with the abbreviation of the University and the name of the department.
Each week, teams worked together on badge sketches. At the first stage of the project, it was decided to make prototypes on a 3D printer made of polymer material to eliminate defects in models for the production of badges made of metal. Students had to master the skill of writing a program for a 3D printer to produce a prototype.
"NSTU annually produces a huge number of young professionals. We decided that at the presentation of degrees, in addition to the state document, graduates should have something to remember about our University. Therefore, the purpose of this project is the development and manufacture of memorable badges for graduates of all NSTU departments ", said Natalia Plotnikova, the leading engineer, Associate Professor of the Materials Science in Mechanical Engineering Department.
As a result of the first stage, the meeting of all participants was held and the teams presented the results of their work. The main task of the second stage, which will be held in the second term of the school year, is the selection of manufacturing technology for the production of new badges of metal.
The students are planned to submit for approval the developed badges sketches to the deans of departments. After that, NSTU will launch the production of badges for graduates of 2019.
