The Il-2 ground-attack aircraft restored by the NETI engineers is involved in the filming of a feature film about the war. According to the plot, the plane, or rather its computer model to be more exact, is going to crash again. The main character like Alexey Maresyev is to lose his legs, wade through to his comrades and go back up the fly after hospital. Pyotr Fyodorov received the leading role. The actor has already performed in films about the Great Patriotic War: he starred in "Stalingrad" and in a remake of the famous Soviet film "The Dawns Here Are Quiet."
The plane took off at Oreshkovo airport located near Kaluga. The test pilot Vladimir Barsuk, the director of the Siberian Research Institute of Aviation named after S.A.Chaplygin, flew the Il-2 ground-attack aircraft.
"The main goal of the video shootings was to obtain footage of the real flight of the Il-2 aircraft. There was a detailed study of all the aerial scenes of the film. First of all was there was animation which was analyzed scene by scene. Types, maneuvers that had to be done", — said Vladimir Barsuk.
The Il-2 was found in 2012 in Krivoe Lake in Murmansk Oblast. The the aircraft was completely restored in 2017 by "Aviarestavratsiya" company. Vladimir Berns, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of Aircraft Strength Department of NSTU supervised the process.
The work on the search and restoration of the aircraft was carried out with financial support of Wings of Victory Foundation, JSC Ilyushin Aviation Complex, United Shipbuilding Corporation and Novaport Holding.
