From June 21 to 25, the Engineering Lyceum of NSTU NETI took part in the IX All-Russian Young Naturalists Tournament which was held at ITMO National Research University in St. Petersburg. The team became the absolute winner.
The tournament has been held since 2013. This is a very unusual competition: the teams of of high school students compete in the ability to solve complex research problems, convincingly present their solutions and defend them in debates which are called "battles"among the participants.
A few months before the tournament, the organizers publish a list of 17 tasks which are the official translation of the IYNT international tournament tasks. The solution to each problem is a real research work for students, since they have to conduct many experiments, make a qualitative explanation of the phenomenon and offer a mathematical model for predicting certain dependencies.
Enginetic, NSTU NETI Lyceum team, consisted of the specialized physical class students; the head was Natalia Nikolaevna Gudzeva, a physics teacher.
The victory became possible since the lyceum students are eager to experiment, acquire theoretical understanding and thoughtfully follow the research procedures. The team captain Dmitry Obraztsov distinguished himself in the ability to conduct a dialogue during the solution of one of the tasks, communicating with students of the junior league. Arseniy Ustinov adequately withstood the pressure of two Moscow teams during the final battle.
