These prostheses serve twice as long as usual, which means that patients will be less likely to require repeated surgery.
Limbs prosthetics, including the locally manufactured ones, is included as an additional method of high-tech medical care provided within the framework of compulsory medical insurance in 2019 in Novosibirsk Oblast. The Director of territorial of Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund (CMIF) of Novosibirsk Oblast Elena Yagniukova reported this on Wednesday.
"In 2019, the program of compulsory medical insurance in Novosibirsk Oblast will introduce additional methods of high-tech care. We are planning to increase the volume of high-tech treatment in the region would to 9 thousand cases taking into account these methods, " said Yagniukova. She also mentioned that the financing in this segment of compulsory insurance for the current year had increased by 400 million rubles and will amount to 1.5 billion rubles.
To date, more than 3.5 thousand operations on hip implants have been carried out. The prostheses were developed with the participation of scientists of Mechanical Engineering and Technology Department of Novosibirsk State Technical University. Now in Novosibirsk the prostheses are produced by the company "NEVZ-Ceramics". The company in collaboration with NSTU is preparing to go into the production of the world's first ceramic prostheses for knee joints which will be produced in Novosibirsk in 2019. Russia will be the only country where the technology of a knee joint production on the basis of ceramics is mastered. "The experience of a German company showed the danger of manufacturing important elements of the knee prosthesis based on ceramics. Ceramic materials are not meant to withstand bending, but they work great in conditions of compression and friction. Our task was to completely eliminate bending stresses. We have changed the nature of the prosthesis work and have achieved high reliability", — said Anatoly Bataev, one of the prosthesis developers and the Rector of Novosibirsk State Technical University
According to the Director of the holding company "NEVZ-Soyuz" Hugo Deys, the innovative artificial joints will serve twice as long as usual. "The use of individual parts of the knee joint made of ceramics is in its infancy throughout the world, everything is made of metal basically. The service life for titanium is about ten years, for ceramics it is twice as long, " he said.
