Leonid Vitaliyevich Kantorovich (1912—1986) was Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences, Professor, the author of the linear programming method, a Nobel Prize Laureate (1975) in economics. His works were devoted to the manufacturing planning and optimization, linear programming of economic cybernetics, and price formation. He was the joint winner (with the American scientist Tjalling Koopmans) of the 1975 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his work on the theory of the optimum allocation of resources. Kantorovich is considered to be one of the founders of the Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences.
