NSTU, being a regional flagship university, in partnership with the Industrial and Energy College (NIEC) and Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Branch of PAO RusHydro, presented a project on vocational guidance for orphans called Renewable energy in life. Novosibirsk orphans from the municipal public institution Center Sozvezdie, designed, assembled and launched a solar battery on a pedestrian crossing with the help of NSTU scientists and college teachers. This battery began operating near the Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant in end of November 2018.
The head and the driving force of the project on the part of Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant was Denis Ivashkin, a graduate of the Power Engineering Department of NSTU and the current head of the support group for the energy market of Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, the branch of PAO RusHydro.
"The project is aimed at achieving several goals. Among the main ones are the social and professional adaptation of orphans, the promotion of energy efficient technologies and renewable energy sources, the improvement of road safety by lighting unsupervised pedestrian crossings using renewable energy sources,”said Sergey Chernov, the Dean of the Power Engineering Department of NSTU.
The first stage of the project started in February 2017. The faculty of the Power Engineering Department of NSTU gave classes on electrical engineering, types of renewable energy sources and the history of alternative types of energy generation to the orphans in the workshops and laboratories of NIEC. NSTU research facilities allowed the students of NIEP and Center Sozvezdie to carry out laboratory work on unconventional and renewable energy sources: solar power, wind power, hydropower.
The practical part included the assembly of solar power panels. Five students of Center Sozvezdie in collaboration with NIEC students were mentored in assembling the device to power the traffic light and the lighting system. The final stage of the project was the installation of supports with the signs of a pedestrian crossing, installation of solar modules and the control cabinet and laying of a cable line.
The installation of solar panels and the organization of a pedestrian crossing took place in November 2018. The power source for the traffic light and the lighting system was a solar power station with a 600 watts capacity. The pedestrian crossing was opened at the end of November in the presence of all project participants.
“All data and parameters of the installed station are reflected in real time in the cloud services of the Internet and can be used for observations. I will note that, thanks to the project, not only the necessary and long-awaited facility appeared in Sovetsky district, but also an educational and laboratory testing ground for the study of renewable energy sources,” commented Svyatoslav Poltaranin, the director of Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant.
In general, about 70 people participated in the project including teachers and students of secondary school No. 112, teachers and students of the Novosibirsk Industrial and Energy College and the Novosibirsk State Technical University.
In addition to the NSTU the project participants are Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Branch of PAO RusHydro, the MPI Center for Helping Children Left Without Parental Care Sozvezdie and Novosibirsk Industrial and Energy College. The project involved equipping an unsupervised pedestrian crossing with artificial light sources powered by solar panels. The design of the energy supply system was carried out by the students of Center Sozvezdie together with students of the Novosibirsk Industrial and Energy College. The guidance and methodological support to the project was lent by the specialists from the flagship university NSTU and Novosibirsk Hydroelectric Power Plant, the branch of PAO RusHydro.
