Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, signed the decree bestowing Government Awards. Sergey Kharitonov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, the head of the Institute of Power Electronics (IPE), the Head of the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering of NSTU NETI, received the Honorary Title "Eminent Educator of the Russian Federation".
The title was awarded for "achievements in research and teaching work, development of practical skills and hard work over many years".
Sergei Kharitonov is the founder and long-term leader of the Institute of Power Electronics which stemmed from the Aircraft Electronics Laboratory, NSTU NETI.
Over the past 5 years only, IPE won the competitions of the Federal Targeted Program "Research and Development in Priority Areas of the Russian Research and Technology Complex Development for 2014-2020" twice.
The areas of scientific and practical development of IPE are:
· aircraft systems,
· space-based systems,
· power generation facilities,
· automobile transport,
· railroad transport,
· machine tool engineering and robotics,
· compressor station in main gas pipelines,
· special purpose systems,
The most important IPE's development is energy storage which is being actively implemented now. At the same time, the Russian energy storage devices are much larger and far cheaper than foreign equivalents.
The most recent work of the Institute is combining the starter and electric generator for modern passenger aircrafts, which significantly reduces the device weight and size, as well as disposes of the outdated starter.
