NSTU NETI takes operational mamagement of the buildings of Siberian Polytechnic College (SPC), a former branch of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI".
This is reported in the order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, released on May 22, 2020. NSTU NETI will manage the educational and business premises of the college located at B. Khmelnitskogo street, 7 and 9, with a total area of about 18 thousand square meters.
The order runs: "Withdraw from the operational administration of the Federal State Autonomous Institution of Higher Education "National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" objects of real estate and especially valuable movable property. <...> Assign the right to operational management to the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Higher Education "Novosibirsk State Technical University".
The issue of transferring the college to the largest Siberian technical university has been considered since 2017, when the media reported about the possible shutdown of SPC. Dmitry Pribalovets, the Deputy of the Novosibirsk City Council, sent a request to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to consider the possibility of transferring the college to NSTU NETI. The Deputy was afraid that the college might be closed, and the land sold for residential development, that is why he sought to save the public purpose of the buildings and territory of the college on B.Khmelnitskogo street.
"The college buildings will retain their educational purpose and will be used for teaching technical disciplines. In addition, it is planned to open a technopark where students are able to create prototypes of their developments. The college dormitory will also be used for its intended purpose, that is, for accommodation of foreign students", - says Anatoly Bataev, the Rector of NSTU NETI. The Rector noted that the buildings of the college are in good condition, but classes can be given there only after licensing of these premises by NSTU NETI. All students of SPC will be invited to go to NSTU NETI. They can also go study at any other college if there are relevant departments.
The Siberian Polytechnic College was established in 1953. The college was reorganized in 2009 by joining MEPhI as a branch. The Siberian Polytechnic College trains specialists with secondary professional education for the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant and other enterprises of the city.
