At the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Innovation Policy of the region, Russian scientific communicators gathered in Novosibirsk to discuss the progress of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation.
More than 80 people — representatives of scientific institutes, higher educational institutions, and scientific libraries - took part in the meeting "How the agenda of the Decade of Science and Technology affects communication between science and society." The participants discussed the role of popular science communications in developing interest in science and attracting young people to the field of research, the specifics of popularizing science and technology in higher education, the possibilities of libraries as centers of scientific communications, and the specifics of forming an infrastructure for popularizing science.
The moderator of the section "Popularization of science and technology in higher education" was Zoya Sergeeva, Head of the Information Policy Department of the Novosibirsk State Technical University of NETI. Among the participants of the round table were representatives of seven Novosibirsk universities, including Elena Tanazhko, a spokeswoman for NSTU (NETI).
The participants discussed the technologies of popularization of science at the university, identified problem areas, and shared their experience.
"Popularization of science and technology is one of the leading tasks of the complex of initiatives of the Decade of Science and Technology in Russia and a priority direction of the university's communication strategy in the work of the press services. This is a joint work of journalists and PR specialists, and the rector's office, scientific management, and scientists," Zoya Sergeeva said. "Through joint efforts, we daily generate interest not only in applied; but also in fundamental science, work to involve young people in research activities, and increase the prestige of a scientist at a university."
The Deputy Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Irina Manuilova noted that our region is a leader in implementing the objectives of the Decade of Science and Technology announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The scientific community, with the active assistance of the Government of the Novosibirsk region, conducts a number of events, and launches projects aimed at the active development of the scientific industry and its popularization.
The meeting of scientific communicators was attended by federal experts — representatives of the Russian Science Foundation, the project office of the Decade of Science and Technology of the ANO "National Priorities", a branch of the Russian Society "Znanie", the Polytechnic Museum of Moscow.
In 2024, the Novosibirsk Region will continue to implement a set of initiatives to popularize science, including the Scientific Tourism initiative with the first popular scientific route "Journey to Science. Novosibirsk". Our region has been selected as a pilot region for the formation of popular science tourism in Russia within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology.
