On January 23, volunteers of the youth project "Just do it!" visited the "First City Shelter" of the NGO "Protect Animals".
The students cleared the territory of snow, and also looked after the puppies that had recently appeared in the shelter, and helped them to socialize in a new place.
Elena Starkova, the chairman of the NGO "Protect Animals" told the children about the shelter and the life of its wards. The organization has existed since 1995 and is the largest mixed-care shelter: about 260 dogs and 120 cats including 60 disabled animals live on its territory.
The Fund "Protect Animals" cooperates with the city water utility organization, the veterinary department, and with several major sponsors. Thanks to the Siberian Generating Company, the shelter managed to build a large operation unit.
"The task of the shelter is to rescue animals that will die if left unattended. We have a lot of disabled or old animals, puppies, and kittens", said Elena. "Help is always needed. First of all, in the housing of the animals, mostly with information resources, because we have provided for the basic needs: we have fed and sheltered them; there are aviaries, hay, and booths. An acute issue is the socialization and housing of the animals. What do we need? To promote photos and videos, to repost from our groups."
The shelter is constantly looking for adopting families: people who want to take a cat or dog as their pets. And we are also looking for those who are ready to deal with dogs and cats living in a shelter. The shelter always requires the activity of volunteers: socialization of dogs, care, assistance in finding a new home for pets, search for former owners of the lost dogs, communication with new owners of the adopted dogs.
