Anatoly Bataev, Rector of Novosibirsk State Technical University, took part in a meeting of the workgroup on improving the training of specialists for megascience projects. Dmitry Afanasyev, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, headed the workgroup. During the meeting, the rector of our university spoke about the training of personnel for the SKIF project.
"The meeting was devoted to the federal research and technical program related to mega-science projects and installations to be built in Russia by 2030. These are expensive and ambitious projects covering the whole country. The meeting was devoted to personnel training. The installations will be built, but an equally important task is to train employees, otherwise, these installations will be just a set of expensive equipment. A lot of university representatives attended the meeting. As a representative of SKIF, I spoke about the situation with personnel training at Siberian universities, including NSTU NETI, TSU, TPU, NSU. The meeting resulted in a decision to create new and update the existing training programs. The idea is to unite the universities and develop networking so that future specialists could receive all possible competencies," Anatoly Bataev said.
During the meeting, A. Bataev reported that NSTU NETI oversees the design process of two research stations for materials scientists. Research on SKIF is included in the draft program of strategic development of NSTU NETI ("Priority 2030").
The meeting attendees discussed the issue of forming a Kurchatov Scientific and Educational consortium based on the association of megaproject participants. In particular, a network of resource centers with enhanced technical facilities can be organized at the supporting universities responsible for training the personnel necessary for the federal research and technical program. In addition, the meeting resulted in a proposal to develop additional educational programs, as well as a system of internships for young scientists in Russian and foreign research centers.
Reference: The National Association of Research and Educational Organizations Participating in International Megaprojects was established in 2013. It includes a number of the largest universities in Russia, including MEPhI, MIPT, MISIS, MIREA, Moscow Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg State University, Baltic, Southern, Siberian, and Far Eastern Federal Universities, etc.
Following the selection procedure for the "Priority 2030" program of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, NSTU NESTI is in the second group within the "Territorial and (or) industrial leadership" track. According to the program requirements, NSTU NETI will develop two synchrotron radiation (SI) "Materials Engineering" stations as well as individual components and assemblies for SKIF stations and new methods of materials research. The key partners of NSTU NETI in this work are the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics SB RAS, Federal Research Center for Information and Computational Technologies.
