The Novosibirsk hydropower station is the first hydroelectric power plant in Siberia and the 17th in power in Russia. In 1950, the Novosibirsk HPS opened up a new era of construction of hydroelectric power plants on strong Siberian rivers. The Ob is the fifth largest river in the world. The builders cut off the Ob by a dam with great difficulty; their work is now equal to the feat. The HPS has the official status of the historic monument; this is a real example of engineering idea of the mid 20th century. HPS is impressive in its scope: the giant turbines and generators rotate inside it, the flows of spillway dam rage outside. Due to the hydroelectric power station, a resort zone appeared in Novosibirsk. It is the Ob sea with beaches, islands and sailing yachts.
