Igor Marchuk graduated from the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Novosibirsk State University (major of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics) in 1991. In 2000 has defended his PhD thesis in Thermophysics and Molecular Physics, and in 2014 successfully defended his doctoral thesis in Thermophysics and Theoretical Heat Engineering on the topic "Film steam condensation and thermographic researches of film flows." In 2015, he was awarded the title of "Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences" by the Branch of Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics and Control Processes of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Since October 1995, he has been an employee of the Institute of Thermophysics SB RAS. From December 2016 to his appointment as Acting Rector of NSTU, he held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of NSU.
